Fashion Design Cake {Stylish Sweet Sixteenth!}

When Annie emailed me asking to incorporate her daughter's love of fashion design and some of her original sketches into a sweet sixteenth cake - I got REALLY excited!!
Getting to combine my love of art, cake and Project Runway has got to be the best part of the job.

Annie sent over some of her daughter, Samantha's, designs - I was BLOWN away!!
I knew right away that this cake needed to scream "Fashion!!" and "Samantha!!"
I watch an excessive amount of Project Runway and had the perfect plan!!

This was my favourite design by the birthday girl, and I decided to model the cake design after it!

Amazing, right??!!

Presenting (the very talented) Samantha's Sweet Sixteen Fashion Cake!!

From the sketches I was provided, I recreated them with edible paint onto thin pieces of fondant.
Then, I let them harden to turn into paper dolls!
All of the outfits were designed by the birthday girl herself!
I would wear any of these! Anyday!
Cute Dress!!
This next sketch was another one of my favourites:

And here is the recreated fondant version!
I used a combination of black food colouring gel and water to achieve this look - and you can eat it too :)

The Banner was meant to look like a clothing label stitched on!

BIG thanks to Annie and also to Samantha for having such incredible design sketches for me to use as inspiration for this cake!

I hope you had the sweetest sixteenth birthday ever, and I see an amazing future for you in the world of fashion design!!

Happy Birthday!!

Super Mario Cake!!! {it's-a cake-a!!}

"It's-a Me! Mario!"

When Melynda contacted me about making a cake for her Mario-loving son's 4th birthday party, I felt all my childhood and adult dreams combining in one!!

This vanilla and chocolate tiered cake, has many handmade fondant features that bring the game to life in an edible form!!

We went with the characters from the Super Mario Wii game - and the reaction on Merrick's face when he saw the cake was PRICELESS! Seeing the look on his face made all the hard work that went into this cake,100% worth it!!!

May I present to you....

ALL OF THE CAKE {Our Busiest Weekend Yet!!}

What do you get when you mix a beach cake, a Canucks cake, a Star Craft cake, a Baby Shower, a Super Mario cake and Canucks cupcakes together?

Let me tell you:

A VERY BUSY CAKE DECORATOR!!!

This was our busiest Saturday yet!!!
And with some actual planning and some amazing execution - we were able to pull off all 6 cakes to head out to meet their destroyers.

Aside from the panic attacks and nervous breakdowns during deliveries - The cakes should now be completely demolished and keeping bellies full across the lower mainland!

Here's a peek at what we've been up to, and for the rest of the photos - Check out our Facebook Page and get up close and personal with what crabs ACTUALLY do at the beach when we're not around...;)

EAT CAKE EVERYDAY.
(unless you're on a diet..in that case just look at cake and sigh a lot :)

Thank to you everyone who loved their cake this weekend, and stay tuned for SUPER MARIO CAKE MADNESS tomorrow!

Lego Volcano Cake! {An All Vegan Cake}

When my friend Michelle asked her 3 year old son Seth, what kind of cake he wanted for his 4th birthday - He said "LEGO VOLCANO WITH HOT LAVA!!!"

DONE.

Michelle had another request -  could the cake be an entirely VEGAN cake???

DONE.

We just LOVE doing kids cakes, and this one was even better because it was inspired by the birthday boy himself!

Presenting the Strawberry Vegan Lego Volcano Cake!!!

Travel Themed Wedding Cupcakes! {Mike & Cicy - June 16, 2012}

MIKE & CICY GOT MARRIED!!!!

I was super happy to do these cupcakes for my friend Cicy's Travel Themed Wedding, and everything needed to be PERFECT!
Right down to making sure that Derry, their super cute dog, was included in the cupcakes!

These Vanilla Cupcakes, with giant cupcake on top (with maximum icing for face smushing!)
were stacked on a cupcake tower that was covered in world maps, just to add to the theme of the day.

The wedding was in a gorgeous venue in Vancouver, and the bride looked stunning!

Girlie Cakes are the BEST Cakes! {Ballerinas & Teapots}

This weekend was full of cakes for boys & girls birthday parties, and seeing as I love, love, LOVE making kids cakes, I was so pleased that the cakes could go from Superheros to EVERYTHING PINK!!

Pink & shiny & adorable cakes make me happy inside.

Up first was a pair of pointe shoes for Maya's 14th Birthday!  She was so helpful in organizing the details of this chocolate fudge with chocolate mocha frosting on the inside.  It was only supposed to be one shoe, but that just seemed silly we went for the pair!

It wasn't a point shoe until I added the laces, and then it all came together!

The second girl-tastic cake of the weekend was the Teapot Birthday Cake!  This red velvet cake was inspired by the invitation Lara (@LaraBear) used for her daughters 2nd birthday party - and you have to see how cute this invite is - once again Etsy comes through for something unique and amazing:

Adorable Invites from La Petite Pary Shoppe on Etsy!

We based the cake idea on the teapot, and it has got to be one of my fav's!  So simple, yet so adorable and makes me want a cup of tea.

Presenting Teapot Cake!

Thank you to everyone and I hope that the birthdays were a huge success!!!

I have to say that I really enjoy meeting new people off of Twitter who need cakes - I have been conversing with some of them for a long time and it is SO nice to finally put a face to a name!  Thank you all for your continued support and I can only hope that I will get to meet more of you as the months go by and the birthdays keep coming :)
