I was thinking about last summer and about life in general, as I recently sat on a 5 hour flight from Toronto back to Vancouver.
My life has been a crazy ride in the last year, and I imagine there will be far more crazy where that came from in my future. That being said, I like poetry - so when I have a moment of rational thought (which happens once every 7-9 months. I'm a loon) I try to write it down. I call this one, Sliding Doors:
Sometimes in life, there's a sliding door moment,
Some people go through it, some people ignore it
A moment when life, can change in a blink,
A moment when everything happens in sync
When times like these, occur in our lives,
It makes us aware, makes us open our eyes
For sometimes it's not the where, when, why or how,
It's something you feel - if your brain will allow
It's easy to fight certain thoughts in your head
But you only live once, so why fill it with dread?
Don't worry so much about what will arise,
Just take the steps forward, it's worth the surprise
There's not enough time to have what ifs and doubt,
Those shouldn't be something we worry about
It's hard to know what lies behind sliding doors,
But you have to go through them - you have to explore
Or one day you'll look back and wish that you had,
And regrets will do nothing, except make you sad
Selfish and greedy, some people may say-
But happiness wins, over others dismay.
Moral of the story is: do what makes you happy, people. And not fake happy - I mean like, real true happiness. Because if you're not happy, you need to fix that pronto. Life's too short and I love cliches.

Much, much truth in your poetic words. And you are so very right.
